Why Some Seniors Have a Bad Attitude

Nowadays, our seniors are living longer and truly are becoming elderly. Seniors are faced with many challenges in living longer that are seldom addressed. Most of the elderly live in poverty and on the average, have at least six diagnosable disorders. Growing old gracefully is almost impossible; they also have social disadvantages. Many seniors are happiest reliving their past successes and taking interest in their grandchildren.

They often have low self-esteem along with physical aliments; their reason for living has changed. Many seniors' attitudes are affected by their inability to change with the world around them and their limited participation in the decision making process. Some of the causes of a bad attitude among the elderly are a lack of understanding of what is wrong and an inability to accept changes that must take place to correct it. Nothing is as it once was naturally. Most seniors suffer from poor vision, hearing loss, and joint trouble. Being a senior and making an assessment of your life and those closest to you can bring up bitterness due to unresolved conflicts in past months or even years.

Hardships in life now are blamed on their lack of enjoyment in life. Many question their reason for living because of the changes. Mental decline in function may also bring depression and resentment. Emotional and mental changes, along with other symptoms of illness, never get reported until it is too late because they are viewed as part of the aging process.

Those seniors that are able to adjust to the life changes are those who have a philosophy on living. Seniors with a strong spiritual faith also remain cheerful and joyous even with physical disabilities.
