Senior Appearance

Aging is a natural phenomenon and everyone has to accept this fact in life. Only with aging comes maturity. Personal care and body hygiene improve a senior's appearance and consequently make them feel better about aging. With aging comes wrinkles, injuries, and other special health concerns. Seniors must be provided appropriate care, which includes healthy food, proper hair dressing, seasonal clothes, and cosmetics, as they will be self-conscious about their appearance. A regular exercise routine helps seniors feel and look healthy.

Just because a senior is not young does not mean they are not beautiful, but unfortunately, there is an idea in our society that beauty and age are mutually exclusive. Many seniors begin to believe that their appearance does not matter and slip into a pattern of negligence when it comes to personal hygiene. Seniors should be encouraged to care for their appearance just as they did when they were younger, though with age appropriate clothing and style. Trips to the hairdresser or for a pedicure or manicure can often lift the spirits of a depressed senior woman. These trips can also be made into fun outings with family or friends.

Seniors often also suffer from hair loss or dislike their white or gray hair. There are various steps that can be taken to remedy this and renew their pride in their appearance, including such things as dye and toupees. Such things are never a waste if they make the senior feel better about themselves and restore confidence and comfort.
