Easy to Prepare Meals for Seniors

It’s a known fact that as you turn 40, your metabolism slows down. By the time you’re in your 70s, your metabolism has slowed considerably. As a consequence, you need to watch what you eat even more because it is harder to burn calories.

Eating healthy is something everyone needs to do, but even more so for seniors who may have more health challenges than the average citizen. Seniors are susceptible to osteoporosis and so they need more calcium in their diet. Seniors are more susceptible to heart disease so they need to cut back on fat and sodium. Then they need to increase the fruits and vegetables.

Chicken is a great protein that is low in fat, if you pick the white meat variety. One of the easiest recipes for chicken is baked chicken. One of the great things about this recipe is that it is low in sodium. As you get older, your senses of taste and smell diminish, so the temptation is to use more sodium to flavor your food. This recipe adds flavor without using extra salt.

Take boneless chicken breasts and put them in a bag with crushed cheese crackers and a package of taco seasoning. Once all the chicken is coated, you can bake them until the meat is done -- about a half hour for regular sized pieces. Or you can microwave them for 3 to 4 minutes or until the meat is thoroughly cooked. This recipe can be found here: http://easy-recipes.hypermart.net/.

Soup is another easy thing to make that can be extremely healthy. You can use chicken, pork or lean cuts of beef for protein and then add vegetables. Depending on your likes and dislikes, add as many vegetable types as you like. That’s the wonderful thing about soups, and if you make a big pot, you can freeze the extra for subsequent meals.
