Menopause can mean so many different things to different women. They can experience different symptoms, or none at all as it just really depends on the woman. It is a normal part of life when the ovaries begin to change the amount of estrogen they create. Estrogen aids in healthy menstrual cycles, successful pregnancy and keeping bones healthy and strong. Of course during this time of life the menstrual cycles end which can be such a relief, but there are many other symptoms that are very uncomfortable.
One of the most common signs is hot flashes which maybe 80% of postmenopausal women have. Others include fatigue and sleep problems which could be the result in night sweats or just trouble getting or staying asleep. The changes in the body are many and there are many different solutions to them. Hormone replacement therapy or estrogen replacement therapy can be taken for a short amount of time to rid the common symptoms of menopause, although there are risks involved. Herbal remedies are available in lieu of taking the hormones. Trying to wear layered clothing to be able to rid of one at a time is an option. Getting in a cool room and sleeping in cool sheets also can help. A healthy diet and exercise along with minimal stress, caffeine and coffee are always a plus along with taking vitamin D and Calcium for the risk of Osteoporosis.
First figure out the severity of the symptoms that are occurring and talk to a doctor about the best treatment based on your medical and family histories. A yearly exam is important as side effects and symptoms can change and need to be addressed.
