How Senior Citizens Can Stay Positive

Staying socially active can help seniors spend less time alone. The loss of close friends and loved ones can lead to isolation.

Sharing good times daily with new friends can give you the support network to help you interact and get more fun out of life. If you get busy and involved with new hobbies it helps to focus on the present and not the past. As we get older we tend to slow down, and we need to eat less and exercise more. We should respect our own opinion and express it confidently when asked about a subject. Retirement should be seen as a new beginning in life not as the end or our life. A good attitude helps you age successfully and helps you keep well and happy. Taking a class at a local college helps your thinking skills and rejuvenates your memory. Do some useful work just for the fun of doing it; don’t just sit around every day. Travel and visit different places even if they are just local places that you were to busy to see when you were working full time. Learn to play a new game or take up a new sport you are physically able to do. Take a walk around your neighborhood to keep in touch with nature. Spend some time outside each day in your garden or take care of some plants in your house.

Having fun with whatever you are doing makes for a happy and positive day. Write letters or keep a journal. Reading good books keeps the mind active and alert. Never give up on your dreams and hopes for the future.
