Bills, Bills, Who Pays the Bills?

Here’s the key to successfully paying bills. As the bills come in take them out of the envelope. Look over them and make sure all the charges are correct on your credit card bills and make sure everything is okay with your utility bills. On the top of the bill write the due date.

You can do this two ways. You can use a manila folder to put your bills in and file by date or you can use two big manila envelopes and pay your bills twice a month. If you choose to go with the folders, simply put the date at the top and file by date and as the bills come in put them inside. Then you go to the folder and pay as they come due. If you choose to go with the envelopes, make sure your due dates are under those two dates. Put the bills in the envelopes as they come in and pay them twice a month. You may have to call some creditors to change some of the dates to do this.

Sometimes as people get older they go through many changes like divorce or the loss of a spouse. Before this happens make sure your spouse knows your system on bill paying so they won’t be left in the dark. They will have enough emotional crises to go through without trying to find papers. Out of respect for each other make sure they know what to do and when.
