Find a Senior Center Near You

As many Americans fight the aging process, a great place to start is a senior center. These facilities offer a wide range of services for people ages 60 and over. Communities big and small are offering a central location for the elderly to gather. Local, state and federal grant money and fundraising efforts keep the services accessible to the public. Some centers require a small membership fee.

Senior Centers across America furnish opportunities for seniors to learn about new technologies. Teaching sessions on how to use computers, TiVo, and automated phone systems empower seniors with technical knowledge.

Larger and a few smaller community centers can present a variety of fitness programs. Some centers have pools and hot tubs making arthritis therapy with water aerobics and casual swimming accessible. Walking tracks and exercise equipment make physical activities available.

With instructors delivering gentle exercise programs, tai chi and yoga are available. Informal dance clubs and new dance lessons are given. A place to play cards and board games provide raining day activities.

Transportation concerns are common. Rides are obtainable at some centers for medical appointments, physical needs, meal deliveries to the housebound and a variety of other assistance can be available.

Many centers provide a nutritional meal on a daily basis. Directors make available help with food counseling and nutrition programs.

The volunteers and workers explain and demonstrate the filling out of local, state, and government forms. They make available assistance to find opportunities for financial advice accessible from various agencies.

Senior centers offer our elders dignity and respect.
