Senior Citizen Clubs

Senior citizen clubs and organizations provide a multitude of services to our elder Americans. Nutritional meals, tax help, financial advice, health care input and fellowship with other seniors are just some of the benefits of senior citizen clubs. Many areas have “Meals on Wheels” programs where meals are delivered to shut-ins five days a week.

Different communities offer a wide range of activities to help seniors stay active, informed and well cared for. Some sponsor exercise programs, health clinics, tax and financial forums, trips to various sites of interest as well as weekly luncheons and other get-togethers. They can also help you in choosing a bank and getting your accounts in good order. Many will also help you fill out and file your income taxes.

Our older citizens possess astronomical amounts of knowledge that will disappear if they lie dormant. They need to continue to be challenged, to keep their minds as well as their bodies active, and that is one of the biggest benefits of senior organizations.

Another program senior groups sponsor is working with young children to teach them to read, and even helping adults who have reading problems. Seniors go into some schools and talk about their experiences and careers with the students.

All of these programs are encouraged and sponsored by the many senior citizen clubs that dot our nation. Just because you have reached senior citizen status, does not mean you are worthless. On the contrary, your knowledge and experiences are very valuable, especially to the younger generations.
