As the years fly by, not many of us really think about staying in shape. We are busy trying to raise our kids, keep a good paying job, and take care of our homes. All of a sudden our kids are gone, we aren't working forty hours a week anymore, and some doctor is telling us that we are getting old and need to take better care of ourselves. Where did the time go?
For many elderly people these days, the age comes before the mind is ready for it. A majority of the population is still trying to burn the candle at both ends, and unfortunately, the human body was not made that way. It hits a certain point and starts to breakdown. Slowly but surely things will malfunction and get weaker. Only with special diets and exercise plans can certain activities be done.
Many people get into walking or pool aerobics. They are not to rough and they still get the work out they need. Adjusting their diets to consume healthier foods like fruit, vegetables, and protein, instead of fat and sugar, helps them to stay slimmer and builds more muscle. Going to more frequent doctors visits can help stay on top of health concerns also, and keeps everyone in the know of what is going on with their bodies.
You can't go into retirement with the fear of getting older. Grab a hold of it, and have fun with it. You are going to have all that free time you wished you had thirty years ago. Enjoy it to the fullest, and make sure to do all the things you always talked about doing. Your doctor probably knows what they're talking about when giving you advice, so listen to them, and then go on that two day hike you've been planning.
